This is a community for people to share pictures and stories relating to a particular style- call it modern rustic, flea market style, Salvage chic, deconstruction, faded glamour... just don't say Shabby Chic! There's more to this style than too much chintz and reproduction cast iron. If you like shredded fabric, rusting metal, peeling paint- if you like your surrounds to be a little on the faded dusty worn-out stitched together side, this is the place!

EDIT:: Noticing a serious reduction in curbside throw-outs lately (is everyone getting too poor to buy new things?) I'm moving the community with the times and allowing pics and stories about things you saw but for some reason didn't grab, or things you found in the thrift shop or a garage sale that you intend to re-invent. Salvage is just as much about preventing things from gettingh thrown out in the first place as it is about re-claiming things from the rubbish pile!

Rules (of course):

+ Put your big pics behind a cut! It's polite.

+ No flaming. This kind of style has fragile boundaries, one person's shabby might be another's weak reproduction. If you REALLY think the post doesn't relate at all, leave a nice comment saying so. Three comments gets an automatic deletion of post.

+ Keep on topic. posts that are obviously not relevant to this style will be subject to being deleted by me, the moderator. Feel free to object to me in private should this happen to you. I'm a reasonable girl.

+ NO PROMOTING! unless it's behind a cut AND relates to the kind of thing we're about here. Similarly, feel free to sell things that relate to the aesthetics, but keep it under a cut.

+ Tell us about your finds! We love to hear stories about yard sales, crazy junk yards, smelly little shops stoked to the roof with cast iron...

Also, when joining, if you'd be so kind to fill out this little survey (answering under the assumption that all questions have 'why?' added to them), so I might better grasp other people's understanding of this unique aesthetic:

1. your favourite season:
2. your favourite color combo for this style:
3. do you live with others who share your aesthetic?
4. do you frequent charity shops/flea markets/garage sales?
5. what's the best thing you've found?
6. what's the best thing you've left behind?
7. What sort of style does your run-down aesthetic take the form of (mid-century, country, ethnic etc)?
8. Any horror stories?

And if possible, try to leave us some snaps of your house/dress/shoes/furniture.

If you like stuff like this, why not check out these other communnities? They're great!
